Ladies (and - gentlemen? Fairly doubtful.), you are witnessing an historic event: I am wearing my hair down. Longtime readers may recall that I posted photos with my hair down once before, in my milkmaid braids tutorial, but this is the first time I've actually worn it down in public in almost a year and a half. In that time, I've been working on growing out a pixie cut, and I've been wearing my hair up every day while waiting for it to get long enough for a cut I'd actually like.

Well, it's time. I am so bored with my buns and braids and I think it's finally just long enough for a proper haircut, so I thought I'd give having it down a little test run - and I need your advice! I've got a Pinterest board full of potential cuts, but I haven't found the perfect one yet (and, shockingly, Chris is already tired of talking about my haircuts)- something that looks good both blown-out and wavy, that works with bangs, and that will flatter a fairly round face. Anyone have any suggestions?

A bob just a little above shoulder length would look fantastic on you...and it would look great wavy or straight :)

I vote for the shorter Ginnifer Goodwin one.

You seem to have a lot of variations of a bob, and I think it would look fantastic on you! Especially that Ginnifer Goodwin cut. http://pinterest.com/pin/55695178/

I can see you with the Julia Stiles bob!

I vote the Ginnifer Goodwin cut as well. I also like the cut you have on pinterest at the very bottom of my friend Jess. (I can verify she's just as cute in person.) I think either would look good! (Here's her blog link: http://hellowifeonline.com/wilted.html)

I think this one would look super cute:

I love the carefree longer ends at the front! Also, the stripes on your top are great.

(I found your blog through Dress Your Best and I really like your style!)

I was contemplating the longish bob for awhile (little shorter than shoulder length) because I wanted something light and fresh but not too short because of my round face.  I decided against it because I am too in love with my long hair right now but I think it would look great on you!

By the way, love the colorful stripes and blue shorts!

Your hair looks fantastic down! I know you want a different cut, but I actually like how it looks now! And love that top :)

i am a chronic top-knotter myself....i CANNOT stand wearing my hair down, either...yet i insist on having long hair. makes no sense. i just commented on the pin i think you should go for! :)

I vote for an asymmetrical bob with the shortest pieces starting just above your shoulders and side swept bangs! I have a round face, too, and found that cut to be incredibly flattering.

I love the Ginnifer Goodwin cut as well! Or a cut that's a bit shorter in the back than in the front...? I love the stripes and mint today.

Yur hair looks great down as it is.  MAybe a little shorter and cut the bangs blunt?  Then it would look great up or down

I could definitely see you with a short wavy bob, like Ginnifer Goodwin's.

I love the layered bobs, where you have a little more length to play with in the front layers. They look really beautiful wavy with bangs.

I'm boring - my hair is almost at my waist now because I'm still recovering from the time I chopped it all off eight years ago and regretted it!

Oh teenage years. You were full of mistakes, hah.

Another vote for the just-above-the-shoulder bob!

I have fine wavy hair, and that's the cut I always come back to. It's not quite long enough for a proper ponytail, french twist, or bun, but you can easily twist and pin back chunks of it for a faux updo.

I think that's pretty much what I'll likely do - I do want to keep growing it out a bit, but in the meantime I'd like it to have a little shape.

the other emily said...

Ooh, I do love that one too - I need some more practice cultivating my waves though. :)

I am definitely looking at something in the bob family - right now my hair is a lot shorter in front than in back, so I think the shorter length of the front is likely to dictate a lot of my next cut.

Oh, I wish my hair were as curly as hers! In high school I had long, much blonder hair and people used to tell me I looked like her - I should be so lucky! :)

Wow, thanks for the link, I love her blog! How funny to spot a friend on Pinterest, eh? I'm pretty sure that photo is from the Texas Style Council Conference, I just loved her sassy hairstyle!

I actually had a haircut very similar to that a couple of years ago, loved it, and have been debating just going back to it. :)

And thank you! I loved participating in DYB, and I'm definitely still feeling much more conscious of focusing on my 'bests' when getting dressed!

Thanks Danielle! I'm definitely considering that kind of cut, but I'm nervous about having scissor-remorse in a few months when I'm wishing for it to be longer!

Anja_AHeartandSoulStory said...

you should keep it shoulder length as I have mentioned already on Thursday! It looks soooo good on you. Just get maybe some layers and you will be good!

I love all the pictures that you have, but I like how your hair is now. It reminds me of mine, but I routinely hate my hair.  Try (if you like curly hair) scrunching your hair with some mousse, that's what I do.

the other emily said...

Haha, I can't blame you for not wanting to cut your hair, it's gorgeous! I definitely hoping to grow mine back out to long, I just need a little more shape along the way to help me through those awkward mid-lengths. :)

the other emily said...

Aw, thanks Sara! It's pretty unruly at the moment, it's very thick and the front is good deal shorter than the back so the effect if I don't pin the front back is sort of a lion's mane.

the other emily said...

I am definitely a hair-up-every-day kind of girl when the weather's hot, I can't stand having it touch me if I'm sweaty! That's actually part of why I've been stalling so long on cutting it, I don't want it to be too short to wear up if we've still got hot weather coming!

the other emily said...

Ooh, that sounds pretty durn cute. I am definitely with you on asymmetrical or side swept bangs, I used to have blunt bangs but I've realized they just don't work on my face!

the other emily said...

Thank you! :)

the other emily said...

Thanks Izabela! I am definitely leaning towards something shorter in the back than the front, I think it helps give me some extra visual length.

the other emily said...

Thanks Elaine - if nothing else, I know I definitely need an overall trim, after two years without a cut the ends are looking pretty crunchy.

the other emily said...

I really love those, and my hair does have a fair bit of wave if I let it air dry. I think I need to get some styling products and see just how much curl I can get it to hold. :)

the other emily said...

Haha, I have definitely bounced back and forth between super short and super long a few times now! It seems every time I finally get it really long, I get bored and cut it all off - I need to work on less drastic changes, ha!

the other emily said...

I think that's a good length for me too - my hair is pretty thick, so if it's too short I have to watch out for the dreaded 'triangle-head' look, but it's a little tamer if it has more length.

the other emily said...

Aw, thanks Anya! Yeah, after waiting so long for it to grow out, I'm definitely not in a hurry to go really short again anytime soon. :)

the other emily said...

I definitely need to try experimenting with some styling products - I've just been a little intimidated to try buying something with a label in German, ha! I always get frustrated with my hair when it's at this kind of middle-length, hopefully cultivating the waves will help me get through this phase!
